Tasmania Police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 76-year-old woman in the state's South.

The woman's silver Toyota Avalon sedan was found submerged in water off Dover Wharf, Dover in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Sergeant Andrew Fogarty said while the death was not being treated as suspicious, police were working to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Police are asking for public assistance.
Anyone with information, or who may have seen the car in the Dover area between Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18, can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
