The proposal, called Our Cradle, is being put forward by S. Group and Simon McDermott.
The 62-room hotel will be tucked away on to the edge of the Cradle Mountain National Park area.
There will be six leisure suites, 36 studio apartments and 20 single-bed rooms.
The project is expected to cost $20 million.
It will offer an intimate view of Tasmania's crowning jewel, Cradle Mountain.
With premium architect designed accommodation suites, private walking tracks around the property and stargazing facilities, this development will set a new industry standard for luxury accommodation in Tasmania, S. Group said.
The view the hotel will offer can only be seen now from a viewing platform, developer Simon McDermott said.
"Our Cradle offers guests an unparalleled and unobstructed view from their suite or apartment of Cradle Mountain itself - a view that can only be enjoyed from current viewing platforms," he said.
"Each leisure suite and studio apartment is designed to nestle into the lie of the land and complement the existing landscape."
Mr McDermott is excited to see the partnership project progress.
"It's fantastic to have the received the full support of the Kentish Council and I'd like to thank the public for championing this development," he said.
"Our Cradle will contribute greatly to tourist numbers and employment in the local areas, as well as continue to put Tasmania on the map for premium tourism experiences."
S. Group director Sam Haberle said it was a milestone for the project and was excited to see it move to the next stage.
"Considering the development's proximity to the Cradle Mountain National Park, it is a sensitive area and it has been our intention all along to respect the place and celebrate the untouched essence of Cradle Mountain," he said.
The development is expected to be complete by 2020.
