Mr Brelsford is an integral part of the newly-formed Legana Scrabble Club, with son Dave and his wife Anne joining him for weekly games at Legana Christian Church on Bridgenorth Road.

While the Wednesday morning games are more about fun and friendship, Mr Brelsford's competitive streak comes out.

"He plays it seriously. He enjoys winning," Dave Brelsford said.

Laughing, Ron Brelsford said he tried to "do as well as you can do".

"I play just for fun. I'm an average player.

"It's not all about winning, but it's nice if you do," he said.

However he admits he likes "to get all the letters out in one go - you get a bonus of 50".

He also plays Scrabble on Tuesday mornings at School for Seniors.

Mr Brelsford started playing Scrabble with friends in NSW 10 years ago.

"I played in a table tennis club and then a lady I'd known for years invited me to her house to play Scrabble. That got to be a regular thing," he said.

Words are an obvious passion for Mr Belsford, who also likes to play Cryptoquote puzzles, has sung in many choirs and composed his own songs.

Legana Scrabble Club has six members and invites more to join, Anne Brelsford said.

"We would love any retired or older folk to come and join us for a friendly game," Mrs Brelsford said.

"Ron is certainly a great example.... if he can get out and play Scrabble at 105, we think many others would also enjoy a game."

Legana District Lions Club is advertising the Scrabble Club on its Facebook page and acting as a contact point for prospective members.
