An Australian under-16 cricket representative who also enjoyed a promising junior swimming career, Curran began his football journey with Launceston, winning best on ground in an NTJFA grand final in 2014.

Since joining the Northern Bombers, the leg-spinning all-rounder has appeared more than a dozen times in the development league, including last year's grand final loss to the Blues.

Curran won the call-up after strong showings in the club's first two development league matches and is held in high regard by coach Taylor Whitford.

"He's really good in the contest, he's got some good speed so he'll play midfield and forward time for us," Whitford said.

"I think in the past couple of years he went away from his footy to focus on cricket, but the last six months or so he's really indicated that he wants to have a crack at footy.

"He puts in a lot of time and effort and he's still in grade 12 - he's only 17 years old so it's really exciting for him to have a chance to play on Good Friday."

The Northern Bombers swung three changes to the side that beat Clarence in round two, also adding Connor Pearton and tough midfielder Dakota Bannister for their first games of the year.

Jack Lanham, Lochlan Young and Tom Foon were all omitted.

Bannister looms as a key inclusion as the Bombers look to stretch their winning record over Launceston to 16 games, a run which has included two one-point victories.

Whitford said his side would have to be at its best to extend that record against a Blues side which has shown plenty of promise in the opening three rounds.

"We've probably had the upper hand lately, but before that it was all Launceston and we couldn't get a win over the top of them," Whitford said.

"They've had Lauderdale and Glenorchy in the first two rounds, and I thought they played some really good footy against those two sides, and then they go down and get a win over North Hobart in Hobart so their form is pretty good to start off the year.

"They've had some personnel changes along with us but from the games I've seen - I went and watched them live on the weekend - they're in pretty good form and playing some good footy."
