The Tamar Valley Wine Centre opened in January on Main Road, Exeter, in a building he watched being constructed more than 40 years ago.
"My grandfather built the cottage behind and my mother still lives on the property," Mr Wallace said.
"For me it was a bit like coming home."

The idea for the wine centre developed over a few glasses of Tamar Valley pinot noir, with the aim of creating a community within the centre itself.
"It's very community based. I am trying to support other businesses," he said.
Tamar Valley Wine Centre specialises in more than 200 Tasmanian wines from 60 vineyards, with a focus on those produced in the Tamar Valley.
"Most of our produce is made in house, or is as local as we can get it. We have pizza, cakes, relish, sauces and lamb kofta prepared in house," Mr Wallace said.
Tamar Valley Wine Centre is open seven days from 10am until late. Visit tamarvalleywinecentre.com.au
