A man who smuggled $1 million of crystal methamphetamine in his underpants into Hobart airport will appeal the severity of his sentence in the Supreme Court.
Terry Henry Simpson was sentenced to five years' jail in December after pleading guilty to one count of trafficking 1.35 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine at Hobart airport in August 2018.
Simpson will be eligible for parole after serving two years and eight months.
The court heard Simpson was denied legal aid for an appeal.
His defence was yet to apply for the Legal Aid Commission to review their decision.
Justice Stephen Estcourt directed Simpson's lawyer to exhaust all legal aid options.
Justice Estcourt said the appeal can be listed to be heard as soon as Simpson's lawyer was ready.
