Police are treating a man's body found with a gunshot wound on the side of the road in southern Tasmania as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to Colebrook Road at Richmond on Sunday morning after reports of a "serious pedestrian" incident.
Initial investigations by police ruled out the possibility of a hit and run due to the man's injuries.
The victim is believed to be aged in his 20s.

A post mortem will be conducted on April 15, with the results expected to inform the murder investigation.
Colebrook Road was closed between Franklin Street and Fingerpost Road for several hours on Sunday and would continue to be closed on Monday while investigations of the scene continue.
