Sharing the forward 50 with key tall Alec Wright, the Blues coach had four to half time for the second game running and snapped his side's first and last goal in the 12.16 (88) to 5.5 (35) win.

The victory marked the Blues' first for 2019 and comes as a timely confidence booster ahead of a Good Friday clash with North Launceston next week.  

"Everyone was pleased that we've ticked the box, we're on the board and into the season - it's a bit of reward for effort after playing two really strong sides and doing quite well in those games," Thorp said.

"But everyone was quite calm because we know that it's a very long season and we want to be there late on in the year.

"We've just got to keep getting better each week and I feel like today was a really positive step in the right direction."

Skipper Jobi Harper continued his blistering start to the year, collecting 18 hard-ball gets and a goal among 31 touches, while 2011 Tassie medallist Tim Bristow (26 possessions) looked good in his second game back. 

Brodie Palfreyman and ruckman Hamish Leedham combined well around the ground and defender-turned-forward Wright kicked three second-half goals in a promising return from injury.  

"It was great to have Alec Wright back in the side to give us another avenue to goal - he's six foot four and 95 kilos, so he kicked three himself and played a really strong game," Thorp said.

"It was great to have him back in the side, we were definitely a little bit more dangerous than we have been in the last couple of weeks and that's purely through personnel.

"Most of our leaders played well - Jobi played really well, Hamish Leedham was quite strong in the ruck ... we had a lot of contributors throughout the ground and we had multiple goalkickers so that was really pleasing."

Demons skipper Hugh Williams patrolled the back-line well to be his side's best, while Callum Kilpatrick impressed back and forward.
