North sponsorship
I watched the North Melbourne v Hawthorn game last weekend and noticed Hawthorn had Tasmania on playing gear, while North Melbourne had absolutely nothing eluding to Tasmania.

Not even TT-Line, which we were told is a major sponsor (nothing to do with the Tasmanian government of course).
Maybe the club or TT-Line would like to explain why, as their major sponsor, Tasmania does not rate a mention (or maybe the government would like to do so).
I and many others would like to know.

Farmer problem
INTERESTING times ahead in Australia with about 20 per cent of farmers leaving the land because the cost of feed and water they cannot afford.
The water upstream is milked by the international farmers who own 25 per cent of the water.
Australian quality produce will become a shortage as food produce skyrockets, cheap inferior crops brought into Australia create health problems and no more competition as what we produce sold to the highest international company.
Australia also has the African wasp, a threat to honey bees.
Also, we a problem with a shortage of bees to pollinate crops.
Walter Christy, Shearwater.
Faulty Lights
WHILE driving, it's amazing to see numerous vehicles with faulty or inoperative head, tail and indicator lights.
Do transport or Tasmania Police no longer conduct roadside vehicle inspections?
These used to be a common occurrence but appear to have disappeared.
I know drivers are responsible for the lights on their vehicles but sometimes they need a gentle reminder.
Nothing likes red and blue lights behind you to jog your memory.
Graeme Jacobson, Waverley.
ANZ Bank Closure
I DON'T understand why my bank is closing?
Can anyone explain why the ANZ in Deloraine is suddenly closing because they cannot negotiate a new lease?
This is quite unbelievable.
Has the bank been looking for an excuse to close?
Do the lease holders realise what is going to happen to our town?
Quite unbelievable.
How many others are as devastated as I feel?
A. M Sommerville, Elizabeth Town.
Traffic Flow
READING Mike Adams, (The Examiner, April 10) brought to my attention the Charles Street Bridge.
When looking to turn right on the green arrow heading North turning into Lindsay Street in heavy traffic times, there is not enough room to move into that turning lane, whilst the arrow is green, even when the traffic ahead of you has cleared.
The result is further bank up of traffic waiting for the next light cycle.
A design, engineer solution possible?
Phillip Kingston, Invermay.
Votes grab policy
THE first political party which does something to correct the outrageous and obscene "in perpetuity" commutation rip off payments of retired ADF personnel will stand to receive tens of thousands of votes.

Labor's Budget Reply
I LISTENED to the reply with interest, and have a number of questions about where the money comes from for all the promises.
I clearly remember the release of the imputation credit policy some time ago.
There was no mention about pensioners or self-funded retirees, until about a week later the policy was reviewed and pensioners were exempt after some public outcry, but self-funded retirees were not listened to.
Another case of ill thought out policy.
As I understand it, those who pay no tax, including most self-funded retirees will have imputation credits taken away, but those who do pay tax will keep them.
Company tax has already been paid on the dividends, so Labor will reward the richer and take away from many of the self-funded retirees who are in poorer than pensioners, as their superannuation funds which they often sacrificed during their working life to have enough funds in retirement, now earn a very small 2-3 per cent in safe investments (banks etc.), but save the governments paying pensions and the other lurks, medical, rebates etc.
To make matters worse these people have saved and invested in companies who employ many Australians.
I and many others think this policy is very discriminatory, and what other taxes which will have to be raised to pay for all the promises, will also affect these people.
Bruce Williams, Newnham.
Pensioners do exist
WHAT have I missed pension wise?
I didn't see anything in the federal budget relating to anything for pensioners.
Labor's alternative budget also didn't seem to have anything about pensions.
Nor did any of the other parties.
I don't recollect any mention on TV or radio coverage.
Newspapers, including The Examiner, seemed to also think pensioners do not exist. Maybe a snippet of information regarding pensioners slipped past me.
And pensioner organisations seem to have ignored any benefits either party have in mind.
Please remind me about anything I might have missed.
