Jack said she was looking forward to the new challenge of ensuring sporting clubs around the State were well-supported financially and physically.
"It is a good opportunity to use the Olympics as a catalyst to encourage people to get involved in sport and recreation activities," Jack said.
"It is really important that we push in the community that it is important to lead active and healthy lifestyles."
Jack said the position was a temporary position for 12 months with TIS deputy director Paul Austen to take over her TIS directorship.
Jack competed for Australia at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada before moving to Canada in 1980 as one of the country's national coaches.
She was appointed director of the TIS in 1990 and in 1998 took leave to work with the Sydney Olympic Games organising committee as the diving competition manager.
Jack returned to the State in late 2000 with her daughters Katherine, 11, and Stephanie, 8, and has since been involved with the development of Tasmania's elite athletes.
