Tasmanian property manager Tameka Smith is setting the standard for the rest of the country after picking up the Real Estate Institute of Australia Residential Property Manager of the Year award.

Ms Smith is the first Tasmanian property manager to win the coveted award and intends to use it to improve standards.
"It's pretty exciting for our little state that we're competing on a national scale," Ms Smith said.
Ms Smith is a board member and trainer for the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania.
"I'm trying to raise the standard of our entry level staff. The average burn-out rate is about eight months, which is horrendous in our industry, so I take a pretty active part in trying to train them the right way and build up their resilience," she said.

The Key2 Property director's involvement in the Launceston community also contributed to her nomination, she believes.
"That's a big part of what I do here. I sit on the board of the Richmond Investment Fellowship that works in the mental health space. I do a lot with our local Migrant Resource Centre in assisting [migrants] in getting into rental properties, helping with maintenance on their properties and helping their kids with language barriers."
Key2 Property also supports Launceston sports teams and schools.
The agency was also a finalist in the REIA community service category.
