An uncontrolled bushfire is threatening houses on the state's East Coast.
Residents of Dolphin Sands East have been advised to leave after a controlled burn escaped from a property about 2.30pm on Tuesday.
Tasmania Fire Service said on Wednesday morning the 56 hectare out-of-control blaze was a severe danger risk and was moving fast.
TFS acting district officer Steven Walkley said changeable winds overnight made extinguishing the fire very difficult, with crews forced to defend properties from embers.
Glamorgan Spring Bay mayor Debbie Wisby said a huge amount of agency and volunteer resources had been invested into the fire.
"It is a declared drought area, therefore extremely dry. Residents are understandably very concerned," she said.
Tasmania Police closed Dolphin Sands Road, between 1130 and 1172, as a result of the blaze.
