On a dramatic final day at the national track titles in Brisbane, West Pine's dual defending champion and 2015 world champion was outsprinted after 25 kilometres by her world team pursuit title teammate Ashlee Ankudinoff (NSW).

Ankudinoff, Cure, home-town favourite Kristina Clonan and individual pursuit champion Maeve Plouffe took an early lap on the field after 20 of the 100 laps.

With 30 laps to go, South Australian Annette Edmondson and Cure  took a lap which sent the Tasmanian into a commanding lead.

A breakaway group of six riders responded with a lap of their own, reducing the margin between Ankudinoff and Cure to four points with two sprints remaining.

Reigning world champion Alex Manly lapped the field to add 20 points to her total, but the race was decided in a drag race to the line which saw Ankudinoff storm to the final sprint win and the gold.

Cure's silver medal followed her gold in Friday's scratch race. Ankudinoff finished with 66 points, Cure 62 and Clonan 54.

Hobart cyclist Nathan Earle has broken his leg in a one-day race in Spain.

The 30-year-old crashed in a slippery downhill during the 193km Gran Premio Miguel Indurain.

Earle's Israel Cycling Academy team said he broke his femur but has already been successfully operated on.

Earle had only recently returned to racing following a serious injury sustained while training with Scott Bowden in Hobart.

He had been scheduled to ride the one-day Amstel Gold race in the Netherlands.
