This weekend's round of Australia's premier motorsport competition marks the 50th year of including Tasmania in the national series.
However, the current deal is about to expire and Premier Peter Gutwein said he was keen to keep the state's biggest annual sporting event on the calendar.
"At the moment, we're engaged in negotiating the next contract and looking to put in place another five-year deal with them," he said.
"We are confident that we'll be able to land a deal that's in the best interests of Tasmania and is also good for Supercars. It will be in the short-term, not the long-term because the current deal is coming to an end."
