Playing simultaneously on adjacent courts at the Silverdome, Northern Hawks and Cavaliers made short work of their southern opponents.
Reigning premiers Hawks beat Karana 79-46 with Zoe Claridge named player of the match.
Hawks jumped to an early lead on the back of excellent defensive pressure with new recruits Lydia and Tessa Coote providing plenty of drive through the court, establishing a 23-10 lead at the break.
Ashton Whiley came on to wing defence to keep the pressure up as Claridge worked well with Ashlea Mawer to add to the scoreboard pressure.
The defensive effort of Rach Tempo saw her named player of the match as the Cavaliers beat Kingston 59-44.
Strong movement from Lucy Dennis and accurate shooting from Mel Philpott had the Cavs ahead early and they maintained the momentum to lead 30-20 at half-time courtesy of some fantastic defensive pressure from Tempo and Issy Maskell.
After increasing that advantage to 44-30 at the final break, an impressive last quarter from Kate Pedley helped confirm the result.
The Silverdome will host another busy schedule on Sunday with Cavaliers playing Cripps Waratah and Hawks hosting Kingston both at 10.45am.
The league features seven teams this season following the withdrawal of OHA and Burnie.
