Only 15 days after joining the Demons, the 23-year-old defender has been promoted following their shock 26-point loss to Port Adelaide at the MCG.
After the debuts of recruits Marty Hore and Tom Sparrow last weekend, Saturday night's contest against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium marks the third debutant in two rounds for the side.
Joining the Demons through the supplemental selection period (SSP), Lockhart was drafted on the final day of list lodgement after an effective year at Melbourne's VFL affiliate, Casey.
As fellow Tasmanian Tim Mohr went down with a dislocated knee in Casey's Box Hill clash last weekend, Lockhart pressed his case to officially become an AFL footballer with a performance that rapidly made that dream a reality.
A member of North Launceston's 2015 and 2016 Tasmanian State League premiership sides, Lockhart made the move to Casey last season and was named on the interchange bench in the VFL Team of the Year.
He is joined in the side by fellow former Launceston defender Kade Kolodjashnij, who plays his first game for his new club since being traded in the off season.
The Tasmanian duo and ex Gold Coast captain Steven May are the inclusions for the pivotal early season clash with Lockhart's fellow SSP draftee Corey Wagner, round one debutant Hore and live-wire small forward Charlie Spargo omitted.
