All day parking at eight council-run car parks in central Launceston will increase by $1 from July 1.
The fee changes were approved at the City of Launceston council last week - among an overall 2.8 per cent increase to fees and charges, below the local government consumer price index.
One-hour and three-hour meters will also increase by 20 cents per hour.
City of Launceston general manager Michael Stretton said fees and charges allowed the council "to obtain a wider contribution to regional facilities, and to decrease reliance on rate revenue".
He said a 90-minute free parking trial was also being considered.
More on council fees and budget:
"The City of Launceston is expecting to consider a report into the merits of first 90-minute free car parking in our multistorey car parks in coming weeks; our fees have been set at this stage without taking that future deliberation into account," Mr Stretton said.
Just over 23 per cent of council income is raised through fees and charges.
Councillor Janie Finlay said the 2.8 per cent overall increase was a fair way to address budget challenges facing the council.
"It is one way that we as a regional leader are able to recoup income across the expenses of facilities that deliver services to the region," she said.
"These are taken into the context of the overall budget of the city. They're also taken in context of the significantly heavy load of services that we have to deliver into the community, it supports us to be able to fund that."
