This is the first meningococcal W case for Tasmanian this year and Public Health Services said the man could have contracted it while spending time outside of the state.
PHS has completed a public health response to the case.
This involved identifying and assessing those in immediate household proximity to the patient.
In other news:
PHS reminded the public that those aged between six weeks and 20 years can receive a state-funded meningococcal ACWY vaccine from GPs while stocks last.
From April 2019, a meningococcal vaccine will also be available to those in year 10 through the school immunisation program.
Infants turning 12 months old can also receive the vaccine under the National Immunisation Program.
