Weeds action
AFTER mowing the weeds that make up the nature strip, outside my house and then reading about the Weeds Actions Fund (The Examiner, March 17), I asked myself would the Launceston council apply some strong weed killer to our suburban streets, in contribution to the weed action plan.

The weeds that I have managed to identify in the so-called nature strip and along Wood Street, Mowbray include crabgrass, dock, capeweed and dandelion along with countless others, a botanist would have a field day identifying.
I know big bucks are made through agriculture and we need our grains, yet our suburban streets, parks and recreational areas have, over the past few years, been so neglected that one particular weed species (yet to be identified) has totally taken over Wood Street.
Why do we pay our rates?
And why can't these useless suburban weed havens be turned into parking spaces? Thereby, enabling our cars to be parked safely off narrow streets whilst reducing the environmental weed problem?
And yes, while these nature strips could be planted out with vegies for the local communities and bees, who would be responsible for maintaining the Gardening Australia dream?
As I move closer to retirement, I'm over mowing down the weeds that constitute a green space outside my house.
Please, LCC, put some of our rates towards employing staff to maintain our suburban streetscape.
Thereby, constructively contributing to the weed action plan or give me a parking spot.

Road rules
WHILE driving to Hobart and back I am amazed at the amount of idiots who do not obey road rules with all the roadworks going on.
We stuck to the varying speed limits ranging from 40 kilometres at times and there were signs up clearly stating "no overtaking".
The amount of cars that overtook us and sped past was just ridiculous.
While what others do with their lives is nothing to do with me, I do get annoyed when idiots endanger my life, my loved ones lives and other road users lives.
I wish the police had a bigger presence and am quite surprised our road toll isn't higher.

Mowbray Connector
I JUST read the article on the proposed Mowbray connector being considered in the future for the Northern outlet.
About 90 per cent of the people interviewed objected to traffic lights being installed and I would say that about the same would object to a roundabout being built.
What about a ramp or fly-over connecting the outlet to Mowbray, the same with the Newnham connector about a kilometre further along the road.
These will not slow down traffic and would be more safer than both the ideas being put forward, the only draw back is that they cost a bit more.
