The reason for the mistrial cannot be disclosed as it may impact future legal proceedings.
Margaret Anne Otto and Bradley Scott Purkiss were charged with the murder of Risdon Vale tattooist Dwayne Robert Davies.
Both have pleaded not guilty.
Ms Otto was married to the victim and Mr Purkiss was a close friend of Mr Davies.
Mr Davies disappeared on May 26, 2017 and his body was found just over a week later in a shallow grave on a rural property in Levendale.
The trial before Chief Justice Alan Blow, which was expected to last four to six weeks and call 60 witnesses, was declared a mistrial in its second week.
