The 183cm Tall Fern arrived in Launceston on Monday night and met up with her new teammates on Tuesday ahead of the Tornadoes' season opener on March 30.
Despite never having visited Tasmania before this week, Beck arrived with a good idea of how life as a Tornado would play out.
"I knew Lauren Nicholson who played here for the last couple of years and she had nothing bad to say about the whole place," Beck said.
"Everyone I spoke to when I said 'I've been talking to the Launceston Tornadoes team', they said loved it there so I haven't heard a single bad word about it.
"Being a part of the new NBL1 was important for me and being away from the far North of Australia - it's nice to be closer to home and closer to a lot of my friends that are in Melbourne and further down this way.
"I've heard Derrick as a coach is fantastic with skill development and developing players, so I think that's really important for my game and that's the two massive reasons."

Beck played WNBL for Townsville Fire last season, where she averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists a game, and is the second of the Torns' three new imports to touch down in Launceston following Brittany Hodges' arrival last week.
Still 23, Beck will be expected to help lead a side which lost its four highest-profile players over the off-season.
"I think leadership is amazing and if you're lucky enough to get the opportunity to do it it's something you have to take hold of and grasp and really look forward to," she said.
"That's something you do all through college too - you start as a junior and as a freshman you get looked after by the older girls and then you become one of the oldest ones and you're doing the same they did for you - I think it's quite a beautiful thing."
The 2018 St Mary's College female athlete of the year said she was looking forward to playing a number of roles for the Tornadoes.
"I think one of my biggest assets is that I'm versatile.
"I've played on teams where I've played the one, two, three, I've played a little bit of post and stuff - I'd primarily see myself as a guard but any of those I'm really happy with."
The Tornadoes' opening match is a 7.30pm fixture against Southern Sabres.
