A transition plan developed between parents, staff and the Department of Education will be established to support the needs of students throughout 2019.
Education and Training Minister Jeremy Rockliff said Monday afternoon the Avoca School Association had written to request the closure after a meeting on March 1.
Mr Rockliff said that he had met with parents and Avoca community leaders and acknowledged it was a "very difficult and challenging time" for the school community.

Support to be provided includes an integrated learning program for students during the current school year, a uniform provision, and a review of buses to transport students to Campbell Town District School from 2020.
Community consultation will be undertaken on the future use of school facilities.
