Launceston City and Tamar Churinga will join forces in the Greater Northern League women's competition due to a numerical deficiency affecting both entities and will be known as Launceston City - Tamar Churinga.
Launceston City Hockey Club president Wayne Ottaway said that both clubs, while maintaining a strong representation within the junior competition, were suffering from a lack of senior women which made the joint venture a possibility.
"We believe this is for the greater good of Northern hockey as both clubs now have the pathway as our juniors are not quite ready (for GNL competition)," he said.
"For Tamar, this now creates a pathway rather than losing players to another club and hopefully this move gets Churinga back into the Greater Northern League full-time."
The decision comes as Tamar Churinga were unable to field a side within the Greater Northern League last season but achieved premiership success in the Division Two competition.
For Launceston City, improvement is the key following a strong 2018 season in which they finished third and made the preliminary final.
Ottaway believes the side will be stronger than if the two clubs were left to their own devices.
Launceston City's Colin Pearson will coach the side, which will wear City's playing attire. Players will continue to represent their clubs in lower grades if not required for the GNL.
