An independent review into Tasmania's Queensland fruit fly incursion in 2018 and 2019 and the response to that event has started.

The government and industry biosecurity response to the incursion was the largest in Tasmania's history, and led to the reinstatement of the state's fruit fly free status in January.
Primary Industries Minister Guy Barnett said there were many lessons to take from the incursion and response to ensure Tasmania could manage the risk Queensland fruit fly posed to horticultural industries.
Terms of reference for the review include:
- Lessons from the incursion applicable to national and state arrangements
- Industry engagement and communication
- Community information and communications
- Improvements to the biosecurity emergency response system to protect Tasmania from any future incursions
- Any other related matters that will inform future incursion responses.
Review results will be released by the end of the year, with any recommendations for revisions to the Tasmanian Fruit Fly Strategy 2017-2050 included.
TasTAFE chairman and former Tasmanian Auditor-General Mike Blake will conduct the review.
Mr Blake previously conducted review into the 2016 floods in Tasmania.
Written submissions can be made until May 31, and public consultation sessions will be held in the middle of the year.
