The trial run of the tour will hit the pavement on March 29, and StGiles are looking for participants. 

On top of the $800 cost, friends and family of the cyclists can sponsor them on their 1125 kilometre journey.

Yvette Fuser, tour organiser with company Maglia Nera, said the tour came about through her client Jonty Barnett.

Mr Barnett had participated in an Italian cycle tour with Ms Fuser, and through their friendship she learned about his eight-year-old daughter Emma Barnett, a StGiles client due to her cerebral palsy. 

"We all came together after being impressed by St Giles’s record and work they have done with Emma Barnett, hence we decided to run this tour as a charity ride rather than a commercial tour," Ms Fuser said.

"The effort each rider will make will be in respect for those who have had more difficult challenges each and every day of their lives.

"We know this will become ‘the event to do at least once in a lifetime’ - and what better place, Tasmania, one of the most beautiful islands in the world."

The tour will start at StGiles Amy Road on Friday March 29 and day one will end at Gowrie Park before stages to Tullah, Queenstown, Tarraleah, Hobart, Port Arthur, Swansea, St Helens and back into City Park Launceston on Saturday April 6.

Mayor Albert van Zetten will welcome the tour back into the city with a StGiles family picnic.

The ride’s ambitious target is $5000 and you don’t have to ride to donate, Mr Barnett said.
