Only in its second year, this festival certainly packs a punch, with the aim to showcase the little-known food and natural beauty of Flinders Island - a windswept, rocky outcrop perched on the north-east tip of Tasmania with a permanent population of around 900 people.
The festival runs April 11 - 14, with an all-star line up featuring some of Australia’s most talented and adventurous chefs to showcase the Island’s produce, culture and history across four days of innovative programming.
The Festival’s signature event 'the long lunch' will take place at one of the Island’s most breathtaking locations working with the creative theme of ‘Mother Nature + Human Nature = The Natural Order of Things’.
Be prepared to experience a feast of everything Flinders Island represents: wilderness, community, connection, food and the natural elements.
Another festival highlight will be a uniquely Flinders 'sausage sizzle', visiting chefs will tackle the carpark classic using the best local ingredients.
Local foodie icon, Jon the Juggler will also be on-hand with his famous fermented sauces and sauerkraut to top off your sausage which will be wrapped in his freshly made bread.
Make sure to take time to explore the islands culinary delights away from the festival hub. While the guest chefs will be creating island-inspired dishes for the Festival’s signature lunch, there are also many other dining options available or discover local producers and create your own island feast.
Bring your sense of adventure with you to the Island as there’s so much to explore and experience. Enjoy a breathtaking scenic flight, snorkel in pristine waters, walk through the wilds or relax with a massage - it’s all on offer on the island, you just need to find the “island time” to do it.
