The 17-year-old allegedly entered the store, threatened the cashier with a butcher's knife and fled on foot with a quantity of cash.
Detective Senior Constable Aziz Melick said the alleged offender was last seen riding a black pushbike near George Town Road and Thompson Lane, wearing a black Adidas jumper, blue Adidas cap, black track pants and carrying a black backpack.
The IGA employee was not physically injured during the alleged robbery.
"The young staff member who was subject to the robbery is obviously fairly shaken," Detective Senior Constable Melick said.
Anyone who saw the teenager in the area or has information about the alleged robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or police on 131 444.
