Championship organiser Kerry Beeton said the day was great for younger generations to see some quality chess.
"Everyone wants to have a crack at a gm [grandmaster]," Mr Beeton said.
"This guy's played the top active players in the world including Magnus Karlson who's currently world number one and I believe he drew with him.
"These are the sorts of professional players that we need to get into the state.
"Furthermore, we need to show the greater community statewide that chess is so important and so beneficial for the younger ones."
