Actor, singer, and dancer Tarik Frimpong held a workshop with dancers, and spoke to them about his exciting career.
The 24-year-old recently made his film debut in a supporting role in 2018 Disney hit, Mary Poppins Returns.
His career began when he was young, earning a role in The Lion King as young Simba.
"That was amazing. I performed that in Melbourne and went to China with it. It was super cool at 12 to be travelling professionally," he said.
Frimpong has also played Twig in the Australian premiere of Bring it On - The Musical, and was understudy for the narrator and roles of Sam Onotou and William Xulu in the Australian and New Zealand premiere of Madiba the Musical.
Though he grew up in Melbourne, Frimpong spent many holidays in Tasmania.
His connection to Launceston stems from his close relationship to his godmother, Mandy Morgan, who grew up dancing with his mother Wendy Russell-Clarke.
"We came at least once a year for as long as I can remember," he said.
"It's a beautiful place."
Frimpong said the transition from theatre to film was difficult, however there were skills that transferred across.
"Like day one of rehearsals for a theatre project are in a studio ... and it was the same for the film because I was involved in a big dance number in the film," he said.
"Day one of walking on to set to shoot was a different feeling entirely, because you open the door and walking into this studio and suddenly you feel like you're in another world.
"You've walked into a room but there are four life-size houses and a road. So that was something different entirely."
Mary Poppins Returns was set 25 years after the events of the first film with the story seeing Mary Poppins, former nanny of Jane and Michael Banks, returning one year after the death of Michael's wife.
Frimpong's character in the film was Angus.
Angus works alongside cockney lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda), who is the former apprentice of Bert from Mary Poppins.
"It was just the most magical experience of my entire life. I got to work with absolute legends in the industry," Frimpong said.
He said it was amazing to perform alongside stars such as Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Dick Van Dyke.
"It was phenomenal," he said. "It was just mind-blowing."
Frimpong will return to London in coming weeks for auditions and meetings.
He said he would like to remain well-rounded and continue to dabble in both theatre and film.
"I would love to to do more film," he said.
"And perhaps TV - just more acting in general."
Frimpong said he loved the opportunity to be able to impart some of his knowledge to some of Launceston's young talent.
He shared some words of wisdom for any young dancers or actors wishing to follow in his footsteps.
"My words of wisdom would be work hard, dream big, believe in yourself," he said.
"And, remain humble enough to learn from anyone you cross paths with, whether it's your teacher, or a friend, or a fellow student.
"That's something I've definitely taken on board and work on.
"I try to learn from as many people as possible."
