Launceston's Civic Square will come alive with Italian culture and cuisine on Sunday for the third Little Italy Festival.

This will be the first year the event is being held at Civic Square, event coordinator Marcel Ritichie said the location was great for the festival.
"I think the backdrop heritage of the buildings with the trees make it just a bit more family friendly which is what we wanted to do rather than have it in the street," he said.
The festivities will include pizza, local live music and pinata smashing competitions.

The festival-favourite celebrity eating contest will return in the form of a hotdog eating contest in honour of last year's winner, Launceston Tornados coach and American Derrick Washington.
The will also be around six Ferraris on display by locals for people to check out.
