Little Italy Festival
Get your pizza, pasta, and all things italiano at Civic Square on Sunday, March 10 from 11am - 6pm. The free event will include music, kids activities, cars and food stalls, as well as plenty of aperol spritz and peroni - the last two not for bambinos.

Van Dieman Hop Harvest
Take advantage of the long weekend by getting hands-on with the Van Dieman brewing process with the Hop Harvest. Join the team on Monday, March 11, at 9am, for a day of hand harvesting their brewery-grown hops, destined for the Van Dieman Brewery Estate Ale series. Staff ask attendees to bring a long sleeve shirt, a hat and something to sit on - children welcome to attend this once-a-year hop-portunity.
Landscape lovers yearly highlight
The Glover Prize exhibition
Tasmania's $50,000 landscape art prize, the Glover, has opened. After a record 480 entries this year, the 42 landscapes that made the final cut can now be viewed by the public - including the winning painting, Piers Greville's Pedder Prime Cuts. With the hangars of the works commenting that this was perhaps the highest standard of entrants in the prize's 15 year history, there will be rich rewards for viewers at the Falls Pavilion, Evandale, from Saturday March 9 until Saturday March 16.

There's no shortage of live music in Launceston this weekend. On Saturday, March 9, from 9pm, will be blues artist Bo Jenkins at the Greenwood, praised in the Age with the comment, “every so often a CD comes along that knocks your socks off." At the Royal Oak, also on Saturday, from 8.30pm, will be singer-songwriters Tim Moore, and Daniel J Townsend, tickets $10. And at the Iron Horse Bar and Grill, catch the 'Tassie Tenor' Joe Di Sario playing all the favourites, free.

From Sunday, March 10, 11.45am to 5am Monday, Northern techno diehards are in for a treat. Obsidian Music and Arts Festival will be taking over Royal Park from 11.45am to 11pm, before moving to Bakers Lane until 5am. Final release tickets $104.43, through ticketbooth.
