This keeps happening yet our councils and parliament do nothing, in typical Tasmanian fashion.
When will one or other or both of these moribund institutions finally get off their rear ends and ring, write or Google the Warrnambool Council and ask them how they fixed this problem?
How about they use some initiative and watch the highly successful and widely known film and oddball?
How about they just get on with fixing the ghastly problem instead of whining, procrastinating and claiming nothing can be done?
Peta Newman, Launceston.
Catholic Celibacy
MALCOLM Scott (The Examiner, March 2), despite not being a member of the Catholic church, with his Anglican teaching feels qualified to advise the church on such matters as celibacy in its priesthood, the ordination of women and how confession should be conducted.
Mr Scott also comments on paedophilia in the church, I would ask the question, did married Anglican priests defile children?
Well yes, we all know they did, as indeed married men, heterosexual, bisexual and homosexual men and women all defiled children. Celibacy in the Catholic church, is actually a gift, freely given to God, of a priests sexuality.
Priests are human too and just like every human being on this earth are just as vulnerable in the face of temptation as anyone else.
The Catholic church will recover from all the tragedy of paedophilia, which is beyond the ability of any Catholic priest or laity to comprehend. The faith of the priests and laity remains very strong and many young people are coming back into the church recognising the continuing and unchanging character of the truths of our faith, that obtain today as they did in Jesus' time.
A timeless continuum of the word of God, open to all serious thinkers who seek truth and depth of knowledge of the spirit of God.

Thank you Rene
RENE Hidding resigning from Tasmanian Parliament is another statesman lost to country people. You always listened and mixed with people of all levels irrespective of their political leaning.
Sadly you have moved on while our political systems here and Australia wide cannot see past the next election.
As for gun laws, you tried to make it more humane for farmers and registered professional wildlife culling in an attempt to hold breeding and population control, reducing pandemics disease on our farms and forests of suffering wildlife or the increase of the only effective control by roadkill.
As a raised bushy, fire used regularly at appropriate times helped halt or reduce pandemics even in tree canopies as did the skin and meat hunters and contracted professionals. When shooting, one always goes for one-shot euthanasia both for the animal and cost of shooting, however, having an immediate second or third shot to remove suffering or a wounded animal dying over many hours takes us back to 1080 poison.
How many wildlife have died in drought and fire just this year in Australia?
Rene all farmers, bushy's and small hamlets would love to see you shoulder to shoulder with ex-premier Paul Lennon and local people panels, minus existing politicians, to find a way through the mazes of fire, wildlife management and preservation, pandemic disease control, the $50 million fox lie, and human and vehicle safety.
Commercial pelts and human meat use guarantees the longevity of species and winding back the deer season to January each year removes and disturbs rutting (breeding) and makes the meat eatable. Charcoal on downed logs was the cure for wombat mange for decades.

Tourist Road debacle
WHEN is State Growth Minister Jeremy Rockliff going to listen to the people who travel the road from Deloraine to Cradle Mountain daily. The grass has not been slashed in what seems like a living memory.
People trying to exit properties are doing so blind, farmers have tried to slash sections to stop road deaths, tourists on push bikes cannot be seen, guideposts have disappeared, tourists think they have entered the wrong road in some third-world country.
The contractor in charge doesn’t have a clue what to do unless it is a poor attempt with a grader at blocking drains. Is the minister trying to shut the Mole Creek Caves to save another cost to add to his surplus?
It appears that there has to be some well thought through motive or gross incompetence, or this road would receive the same maintenance budget as the Sheffield to Cradle Mountain Road that is in a good state of repair and safety. There will be a death on this road soon and we all know who to blame. To add insult to madness, a resident has just highlighted that someone has just come and washed the guideposts that cannot be seen.
What a joke.
Lester Willoughby, Dilston.
Launceston CBD seating
We are told that one in five Tasmanians are now 65 or older. It is good to see our council responding to this statistic with an increase in street seating in the CBD.
As one who now finds the need to rest on walks, I applaud this provision.
