Lanning's side on Sunday reinforced their world-leading status, cruising to a seven-wicket ODI victory over New Zealand in Melbourne to secure a 3-0 series whitewash.

Led by player of the match Ashleigh Gardner's three wickets and Ellyse Perry's unbeaten half-century, the hosts chased down their target of 232 with 13 balls to spare.

Australia have dropped just two of 26 matches since the start of 2018, a period included victory in last year's T20 World Cup.

A welcome rest awaits Lanning and her teammates, who had barely paused for breath during a gruelling season of international and domestic commitments.

"I'm trying to avoid airports and hotels as much as I can," Lanning joked.

"It'll be pretty quiet. I feel like I haven't been home much so I'm just looking forward to spending a little bit of time at home and not having a schedule to stick to.

"There's a few exhausted players there at the moment, and coaching staff. They've really put in a lot of effort to help us to do the job that we do so, as a collective, I think we're ready for a few days off."

Australia have no other international cricket scheduled before flying to the UK for an Ashes series starting in July that includes three ODIs, three T20s and one Test.

The Ashes series is followed by a tour of the West Indies and matches at home against Sri Lanka, in preparation for hosting the T20 World Cup in February 2020.

"Next year is probably busier than what this year was so we're going to have to get used to it," Lanning said.

"That's the way international cricket's going now. There's so much more cricket, which is really exciting, and we want to be a part of it.

"I think we've shown this summer that we're up to it and we're going to have to do that again next summer."
