Facing a South Launceston unit boasting Josh Freestone and Jackson Young, Taylor carved 151 off 177 balls to lead the Lions to 9-341 going into the second day.
The knock was Taylor's second-highest in his career to date and featured four sixes and 16 fours.
The keeper-batsman praised Zac Oldenhof (38), Rowan Smith and Fletcher Bennett - with whom he combined for 50-run partnerships - for their part in a good day's work for the ladder-leaders.
"The wicket was pretty nice and we knew we had to get a big score on the board batting first because they're a pretty formidable unit with Nathan Philip and Seany Harris … and I guess I took it upon myself to show that leadership and get a big score," he said.
"For Fletcher to come in at eight and really grind it out for us when we were still in a position where it could go either way .. that was really important.
"We spoke about getting partnerships and I reckon we had three or four partnerships of 50-plus so it was really good.
"We would have liked one of 100-plus like last game but you take those 70 or 80-run partnerships every day."
Freestone (5-73) toiled hard for the Knights to take his second five-for in as many matches and third for the year, while Ben Jackson chipped in with 3-88.
But the day belonged to Taylor, who is averaging over 100 in first grade this season.
"I'm just seeing the ball nice and early which is good," the right-hander said.
"One day you just nick a ball and the next day you can play a cover drive and hit it really well … I seem to have a bit of luck on my side at the moment and you've got to try and take advantage of it.
'When you're in good form it's a nice feeling but you can't take it for granted."
