Craig Newitt drove the five-year-old to a tight win in the 2400 main event at Mowbray, capping off a huge achievement for trainer Barry Campbell.
"We’ve now won every major race run in Tasmania - it took me 40 years to do it but this was the only one we hadn’t won," Campbell said.
"We’d won all the two-year-olds, all the three-year-old classics, grand national hurdle, grand national steeple, Newmarkets, we’ve won all the cups this was the final one - I thought I was going to die and never win it.
"We had a couple of seconds but we’ve won them all now it’s great - I can die happy."
Etymology had been a short-priced favourite for the $250,000 Launceston Cup but finished outside the top four with Fabrizio and Lamborghini finishing in second and third respectively.
