A Tasmania Police spokesperson said the man was 65-year-old Kevin 'Lee' Douglas, of Port Sorell.
"Our thoughts are with Mr Douglas’ family and loved ones at this difficult time," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said a report was being prepared for the coroner.
Mr Douglas was the only occupant of the Toyota ute, which crashed into a stump about 2.30pm on Monday near the Thirlstane Golf Club.
On Monday Sergeant Murray Caine said the weather was good and it was a good section of road.
Sergeant Caine said they didn't have any answers to why the crash occurred and an investigation was being undertaken.
"If anyone saw the vehicle before the crash, driving erratically, or they witnessed the crash at all, to contact Devonport Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," Sergeant Caine said.
