A Legislative Council committee will this year investigate the impact of GST distributions to Tasmania by the Commonwealth Grants Commission.
Specifically, the committee will look at how the payments apply to the state's expenses and service delivery by comparing the assessed and actual expenses of these components per capita compared to the national average.
It will also examine the impact of direct payments from the federal government a it rearranges the GST distribution method.
The federal government last year announced it would benchmark distributions against the financial capacities of the stronger economies in New South Wales or Victoria, rather than a method which averaged out the economies of all states.
It said it would give Tasmania $112 million over six years to assist with the transition from 2021-22.
Tasmania receives 3.7 per cent of the national GST pool.
The committee will accept submissions until March 29.
