The Australian Bureau of Statistics' (ABS) data for the year to November 2018 gives full-time adult workers in Australia average weekly total earnings of $1,604.90.

Chief ABS economist Bruce Hockman said Tasmanian wage growth was steady, but remained the nation's lowest. 

"Tasmania remained the state or territory with the lowest average weekly ordinary time earnings for full-time adults at $1,399.50," Mr Hockman said. 

The average wage for a full time worker in Tasmania was also about $400 shy of the nation's best paid workers in the Australian Capital Territory.

While still the country's lowest, late last year it was announced wage growth in Tasmania was the strongest in the country. 

Tasmanian wages increased by 2.6 per cent in the year to September in original terms, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ wage price index, which measures changes in payments for the same work.

The ABS estimated private sector wages increased by 2.8 per cent in the year to September and 1.9 per cent in the September quarter, both of which were the nation's strongest.

However, in the same period Hobart inflation - which is the best available measure for Tasmania - was equal highest in the country, meaning that cost of living was rising quicker than wage growth. 

The ABS's average weekly earnings survey is produced from a survey of 5000 employing businesses.
