Batting at number three, the nuggetty right-hander was the mainstay of the Hurricanes innings, making 131 from 243 balls in over five hours of defiance.
After the loss of three early wickets, Odgers combined with Josh Barry (33) to add 58 runs for the fourth wicket, then added a further 47 with Zach Walker (23).
At 6-135 the visitors were still a bit shaky, but Odgers found willing partners in Tyler Parker (21) and Kurt Lamprey (29), sharing in 54- and 76-run partnerships with the talented lower order players.
Odgers was the second-last man out, and the Hurricanes were all out for 282.
Chris Lindsay was the pick of the Orions' bowlers with 2/36 from 26 overs, while Jackson Saggers and Matthew Bennett also claimed two wickets apiece.
The Orions had to survive one over to see out the day, with Brent Lawler playing out a maiden. He and Tyler Dell will resume the Devonport run chase next week.
Teenager Alex Wynwood again impressed in a pressure situation ...
Ulverstone and Latrobe are set to play out a low-scoring thriller at UCI Oval. The Demons won the toss and elected to bat first, but found the going tough, bowled out for 75.
Callan Morse was the visitors’ top scorer with 26, supported by Kodie Clarke (16). Will Dau (2-14) and Jacob Wiggers (2- 25) bowled beautifully with the new ball, before Jacob Snare (2-5) and Callum Wheeler (3-18) finished off the job.
The Black Caps also found batting difficult in their innings, finishing the day on 8/122.
Teenager Alex Wynwood again impressed in a pressure situation, top scoring with 36, with fellow youngster Julius Kerwin the next best with 14. Andrew Van Tatenhove remains unbeaten on 13.
The Demons spin twins Brandon King (4-36) and Blake Weeks (2-29) bowled beautifully to keep their team in the game.
Sheffield has claimed first innings points against Wynyard.
The Blues were sent in to bat at home but were skittled for just 53. Skipper Peter Fulton played a lone hand, scoring 40 not out, the only Wynyard batsman to reach double figures.
Aiden Marshall (4-14) and Marc Simonds (4-16) were the chief destroyers for the Mountaineers who replied with a first innings total of 160, set up by a quickfire 61 from Alex King, supported by opener Sheldon Parker, who played the anchor role on the way to 28.
An outstanding spell from teenager Mason Hodgetts put the brakes on the Sheffield innings.
Hodgetts produced his best First Grade bowling performance to claim 5-19 from six overs, restricting the Mountaineers to a 107-run first innings lead.
Wynyard faced a further 20 overs to close out the day, finishing on 3/33.
Simonds claimed a further two wickets, with Damien Harvey (five not out) and Jake Dixon (six not out) to resume the Blues innings next week.
