The original Friedrich von Trapp from the 1965 film The Sound of Music, Hammond was in Hobart to attend the Tasmania Theatre Awards.
The event also served as an opportunity for Scotch Oakburn College student Connor O’Sign to meet one of his idols.
The 15-year-old recently starred as Friedrich in Encore Theatre Company's stage production of The Sound of Music and said it was amazing to meet "the original".
"It was a once in a lifetime opportunity," he said.
"We were talking about the old Sound of Music, his favourite parts and mine.
"It was one of those movies that started something in my mind, that turned into something bigger.
"It just stuck with me and helped me to get where I am today, doing what I love."
Hammond said The Sound of Music continued to connect people.
"It is always fun to meed another Friedrich, because we always have things in common and things to talk about," he said.
"It's funny, it is like a family once you get in that show.
"Everybody has a bond between them forever.
"I have met German Friedrichs, Austrian Friedrichs, even Friedrichs in America and England.
"So yes, I have met quite a few, but this is definitely the first Tasmanian Friedrich."
The Tasmania Theatre Awards will be announced at Wrest Point Casino on Saturday night.
