The Tasmanian Youth Classical Ballet Company held its first rehearsal in it's Launceston studio at TasDance on February 23.

It is ballet student Eva Baonza's fourth year training with the company, and she had been travelling down to Hobart every Sunday for three years to train.

"It's going to be really convenient working here, and training with a new teacher," she said.

She said she loved being part of the company as it had improved her as a ballet dancer.

"I would definitely like to have a career in dance," she said.

Executive producer Michelle Williams said the new Northern branch would provide new opportunities for young dancers in the state's North.

“The wonderful commitment and dedication from these dancers and their families inspired the company to develop a Northern program," she said.

"We are thrilled to be able to give back to those dancers and families that have supported us for so many years, and also to now be able to meet so many new dancers who are able to participate thanks to our dual locations.

"We have 45 dancers in our 2019 Company, with 15 of those now able to train in Launceston, with thanks to Tasdance who will host our Company in their beautiful studios."

The company aims to foster and help guide the aspirations of dedicated and talented ballet students around the state.

It assists young dancers to develop an appreciation and understanding of the ballet journey.

The Launceston ballet mistress will be Alison Winn.

Ms Winn has an extensive dance background, having trained at the West Australian School of Performing Arts and taught extensively in classical ballet and contemporary dance.

Company director Shayne Davies will oversee both branches.

"It's a gorgeous spot to rehearse and train," she said.

"It's opened up so much to the kids. For three years our seniors have been driving down to Hobart, and they've loved it. But, this has opened it up to the juniors too."

Ms Williams said the company aimed to perform in both the state's North and south during 2019.
