The championship, formerly known as the Tasmanian Super Series, will have the same format, with six rounds shared between Symmons and Baskerville.
Each round will consist of three heats and a double-points final, with all super series categories carrying through to 2019, and like previous seasons, consistency will be the key to success.
With this in mind, Sunday’s racing could see the start of a changing of the guard, with several reigning champions not entered for the season opener.
Reigning improved production sedan champion Leigh Forrest will be aiming for his seventh title in his powerful Toyota Celica Turbo, with the veteran campaigner showing no signs of slowing down.
The Hobart driver’s biggest threat on Sunday will be Matthew Grace, who debuted a new Nissan 200SX last season and showed plenty of pace towards the end of the year as he came to grips with the new package.
Brad Chick, in a Holden V8 Commodore, could be the dark horse of the field while the only other defending state champion in action will be Hobart’s Peter Kemp, who will be aiming for a hat-trick of titles in the Hyundai Excel category.
Practice and qualifying will start at 8.50am on Sunday, with the first race on the 24-event program due to start at 10.20 am and the final race scheduled for 4.40pm.
