The store, which opened in June 2016, was the first Collins Bookstore established in Tasmania.
It replaced Fullers Bookshop, which had occupied the St John Street space for 14 years.
At the time, Collins Booksellers chairman Duncan Johnston said the business was in-line with the company's revised corporate strategy and five-year plan, acknowledging increased demand for "bricks and mortar" stores.
Launceston Chamber of Commerce chief executive Neil Grose said news of the closure was disappointing.
"It is disappointing to see another established Launceston retail business closing their doors in the CBD," he said.
"Nationally the trend appears to be for a softening in the retail trade, and while there are pleasing examples of retailers doing well in Launceston, the overall indication is that retail in the CBD is also seeing a softening."
In other news:
Collins is the second Launceston book store to close in the past two years.
Birchalls, which was located on Brisbane Street, closed in February, 2017 after 173 years of trading.
Stories Bookshop, which re-opened on St John Street in 2017, and Petrarch's Bookshop on Brisbane Street, which has been operating in Launceston since 1985, will be the only two remaining book stores in Launceston.
Collins Booksellers were contacted for comment.
