Sheep steward Allan Middleton said the prime lamb competition would highlight the livestock with three classes juniors, export lambs, and trade. Last minute entries are welcomed.
“It's really important to keep the rural sections going and to keep them at the forefront of the show. It’s a very important part of life,” he said
“To be able to bring the city people in to see what goes on in the rural section and how the rural section lives.”
Sponsorship, advertising and publicity manager Hilary Keeley said the community expected and wanted the show to have a rural feel.
“We stick to our grassroots. We are here for the 106th year, and it’s rural that made us. We started off with apples,” she said.
“You see all the local shows that are supported and sponsored by local communities, they’re the ones that keep going whereas the city ones, that don’t have that same connection with the community, are the ones that are struggling.”
Mr Middleton agreed by saying "it’s all about getting back to our root base".
Ms Keeley said the show not only helped people gain an appreciation for farmers and those working in the rural industry but that it also helped them gain empathy.
Tamar Rural Youth is helping the society organise the show and are holding a ute master, which will run from 8.30am to 2pm.
Ms Keeley said the show would also have all the traditional favourites such as showjumping, home industries and family entertainment.
“The kids always love the animal nursery and just to be around animals. We have also got the high dog jumping and the pet parade, so they can all be involved.”
Children are encouraged to come dressed in their best AFL outfit for a chance to win Best Dressed, which will be Judged by AFL Collingwood's Tony Shaw.
The show starts at 9am on Saturday, February 23 at the Exeter showground. Admission prices are - adults $10, children 5-16 $5
