Launceston basketballers Troy Schaeche, Morgan Lockwood and Brad Templar were a part of the squad that fell short in their final two games of the tournament.
But Basketball Tasmania’s head coach Mark Radford said the trio were a great part of the reason why Tasmania made it all the way through to the semi-finals.
“Troy probably had his best nationals,” he said.
“He certainly served a role coming off the bench.
“He shot the ball a decent clip from the three-point line.
“But I was very happy with Morgan Lockwood – that was his best nationals as well.
“He played an outstanding role and did a combination with Jacob Richards.
“Morgan’s contribution to the group was his passing, his IQ and he has started to find a way to score.”
The Tasmanians fought hard in the 79-69 playoff loss to NSW. They were still in the contest with under three minutes on the clock and just a basket in it.
“I know the boys were bitterly disappointed that they didn’t win the bronze-medal game,” Radford said.
“They felt they were good enough to win but in the end that team got us twice by 10 points – they just had our number.”
