Developer Errol Stewart said the museum would be completed by the end of June.
“The museum is only about three or four months away … I’ve got about 20 tradies on the job that will need some work to do by the end of that,” he said.
The museum is moving from its Cimitiere Street location across the road from City Park due to a land transfer deal with the University of Tasmania.
The move will make way for UTAS’ $260-million campus relocation.
A brand new museum is being built on Lindsay Street at Invermay. A nearly 2000sqm, one-level building with two new car parks, including 52 individual spaces and disability access is being constructed.
The current museum has been at the same site for more than two decades.
About 24,000 people visit the museum each year, which is home to about 100 historic cars and motorcycles. Some of the collection is made up of private vehicles.
However, the move hopes to attract more visitors being located across from the newly-opened Silo Hotel.
The development is expected to cost about $5 million.
