At last week’s council meeting, Councillor Andrew Connor moved a motion to have meetings recorded.
However, the motion failed to get a seconder.
“It was disappointing that no other councillor believed this issue was worth debating, let alone supporting,” Cr Connor said.
The motion included making a livestream of the meetings available online, and recording audio and video of council meetings available online.
The proposal could have cost between $5000 and $40,000.
A number of other Northern councils already have this technology including George Town, Glamorgan Spring Bay and City of Launceston council.
Cr Connor said having the meetings recorded would encourage community participation and raise awareness of the council’s decision making process.
Cr Connor put forward a similar motion last year.
