More than 10,000 people were tipped to attend the Deloraine Street Car Show, breaking the 2018 record attendance.
In it’s fourth year, the site expanded once again to accommodate about 450 cars built before 1988.
Deloraine Street Car Show committee member Grant Evans said the site was nearly at capacity.
“There are a few cars from the mainland, but predominantly they would be from Tassie, but they’re from all over the place – from Hobart, Smithton, the West Coast and everywhere in between,” Mr Evans said.
“There is something here for everyone. We have Australian made cars, British cars, American cars and European and Japanese stuff.
“There are cars here that are worth several hundred thousand dollars and there are something that are only probably worth $4000, there is even a rusty one out in the middle.”
Mr Evans said the show was one of the biggest in the state, with some Deloraine shops having their biggest day of the year.
“It’s a lot bigger crowd than last year. Easily more. There won’t be all 10,000 here at the same time, but over the day there would be more,” he said.
He said the it was the town’s layout that made the event so appealing.
“The fact that it’s in the street and you’re able to include the restaurants and the shops and all that sort of thing and people can walk up and down the street which they can’t normally do,” he said.
“A lot of car shows are normally on a football ground and you can see everything. But this has got a bit of mystery about it and a bit of intrigue because you don’t know what’s around the corner.
“We’ve got a wonderful street here that winds all the way through.”
“We’ve got part of the street fenced off, we have a DJ here, a couple of bands further down the street, a DJ down at the bottom of the town and a DJ over at the swimming pool area,” Mr Evans said.
“They’re all pre ‘88 cars. We just like to chrome bumper look. Anything after ‘88 anything like [the chrome] had already finished.”
Mr Evans said the car show had exceeded expectations right from the event’s first year.
