Beta Park Bouldering Gym has lodged a development application with the City of Launceston council to open a site at Invermay.
The application aims to provide a specialist fitness and sports environment that is not yet available in the area.
It requires a large floor-to-ceiling height and an open clear internal space.
“The proposed use will positively benefit the local and greater community and will not have a negative impact on nearby residents and businesses,” the application said.
“Bouldering is a fast-growing variation of rock climbing.
“Climbers do not use ropes or harnesses, but scale shorter walls and are protected by a thick, padded floor.”
The application said there was no equipment required, making it safe, easy to learn and enjoyable, while building strength and confidence.
The park is proposing to open from 6am until 10pm on weekdays and from 9am to 9pm on weekends.
The development application closes for comment on March 2.
