The announcement from Basketball Victoria on Friday comes after finally brokering a new partnership with the National Basketball League.
Both men and women's competitions will adopt the same moniker as they did in the defunct SEABL.
“NBL1 will be the premier league in Australia after the NBL and WNBL, showcasing Australia’s best emerging talent and many other professional players," NBL chief executive Jeremy Loeliger said.
“NBL1 will strengthen the pathway from the junior levels all the way through to the NBL, WNBL and ultimately the Boomers and Opals."
Tornadoes president Janie Finlay joined in singing the praises of the arrangement.
"What it means for fans that come into the stadium, they're coming to watch a NBL product," she said.
"What it means for those players that are aspiring on the pathway, they now have that really clear pathway."
The Tornadoes had been first briefed by Basketball Victoria last year that the new league would be pushing for commercial excellence, great product and a greater experience inside the stadium.
Finlay said clubs now will be gaining access to the NBL resources and its reputation.
"We have always done really well, but we can now do exceptionally well," she said.
"The brand will help us get people on board and spark an interest that may not have understood the potential.
"What they're seeking to do with this league is go to the next level altogether.
"It is just a stupendous opportunity for Launceston and for players in Tasmania."
